Dubai is a place where you can get all the food in the world in the same place at the same time. The street food in Dubai is literally a traveller’s dream! You can find street food everywhere in the United Arab Emirates even in places that you wouldn’t expect it. I love the street food in Dubai and in this post I share some of my personal favourites. Have you ever wondered what the locals eat, well if you have you are going to know today because in this post I also share what Emirati’s eat in the UAE.
Shawarma is a non – vegetarian food which can be made with sliced chicken, lamb or beef (depends on what you ask for) and is served in a flatbread. It’s filled with onions, vegetables and various sauces. No matter where you get the Shawarma from wherever you go, it would never beat the authentic shawarmas in the streets of the UAE.
MY FAVOURITE PLACES TO GET SHAWARMA IN DUBAI:
2. AL SAFADI
3. ZAATAR W ZEIT
Manakish is another delicious delicacy and is a very popular Levantine dish. It is flatbread filled with cheese and then cooked in the oven. You can add tyme, vegetables, meat, spices and oils on the top. You’ll never regret ordering it!
SOME OF MY FAVOURITE PLACES TO GET MANAKISH IN DUBAI:
2. SIKKA CAFE
3. ZAATAR W ZEIT
Luqaimat is purely 100% Emirati! Luqaimat are fried balls made of dough, the outside is crispy and the inside is ever so fluffy and piping hot. They are made up of milk, butter, flour, sugar, yeast, saffron and cardamom. To finish it off you can lightly sprinkle rose flavoured honey or date syrup on top.
TIP: IF YOU WANT GOOD LUQAIMAT HEAD TO SIKKA CAFE IN CITY WALK OR AL KHAWANEEJ.
Karak Shay is one of the most popular drinks in the UAE. Made with cream and a variety of spices, Karak can be brought just above Dhs 1 at any roadside shop. Small fried donuts sprinkled with sugar are the best thing to eat with this extremely delicious tea. Once you had one karak you’ll keep going for more.
TIP: IF YOU WANT SOMETHING MORE EMIRATI INFLUENCED HEAD TO THE KARAK HOUSE
Samboosa is the Indian Samosa with an Arab twist. Filled with vegetables, meat and spices, it’s a great snack for a long, long car ride. WARNING: BE CAREFUL! YOU COULD GET SUPER ADDICTIVE TO THEM AND LOSE COUNT OF WHERE THEY HAVE ALL GONE!
Shish Tawouk is another sandwich popular in the United Arab Emirates and personally I believe it is unknown to tourists. However, it is extremely popular with Emirati’s. Shish Tawouk is made up with thinly cut chicken stuffed in flatbread filled with vegetables, pickles and spices. You are sure to find this everywhere over the UAE.
CHIPS OMAN ROLL
Chips Oman Roll is one of the most popular street food in the Emirates and is part of every child’s childhood. Chips Oman Roll is a plain roll filled with layers and layers of cheese spread and inside the roll are spicy potato chips.
Kanafah is served at almost every cafe in the UAE. Kanafah is a Middle Eastern dessert made with filo pastry soaked in saccharine syrup and layered with yummy cheese. Did I mention cheese again? This is one of my favourite desserts and I am sure it will be yours too!
MY FAVOURITE PLACES TO GET KANAFAH:
1. WAFI GOURMET
2. AL SAMADI SWEETS
